Describe a natural landscape in your area：

"Ok, the natural landscape I'd like to talk about is the place where I grew up. Wuwei, ancient name Liangzhou, sits where three great plateaus meet and governs three counties and one district today. What amazes me is this: you can find nearly every kind of landform there, except the ocean. And the scenery draws visitors from all over the world, they come just to see it for themselves."

"There are snow-capped mountains in the south, peaks that keep their white even in early summer. Then come deep canyons and wide grasslands where sheep and cattle graze all day. Move a bit and you hit the forest sea, 林海, thick pine woods that smell of resin after rain. And of course there are plateaus, stretches of desert, and soft rolling hills."

"My favourite has to be the Danxia landforms. In Gulang County, 古浪县, we have the Kulongshan Danxia and the Gulang Gorge Danxia. And in Tianzhu County, 天祝县, around Benkang Village near Tiantang Town, there is the Benkang Danxia. The rock there runs red, orange, yellow, like someone painted the hills by hand."

"Growing up boxed in by all this, you learn to care about the land without even trying. It isn't one single scene, it's a whole palette, and that is what makes home feel irreplaceable."

• you can find nearly every kind of landform there, except the ocean：用 except 引出"除外"项，比 without 更口语；landform 是雅思地理类高频词，记得加 s。

• peaks that keep their white：keep + 形容词，表"保持某种状态"，比 stay 更活；描述雪山终年积雪可用。

• stretches of desert：a stretch of 表"一片、一段"，用来量化地貌比 a piece of 更自然。

• someone painted the hills by hand：比喻句，雅思 Part 2 用 simile 能拉印象分，但别堆，一两句足够。

• ❌ "the mountain is very white" → ✅ "snow-capped mountains" / "peaks covered in snow"（雪山顶用 snow-capped，别用 very white）

• ❌ "the colour is very beautiful" → ✅ "the rock runs red, orange, yellow" / "striking colours"（颜色用 striking / vivid，别用 very beautiful）

• ❌ "I very like this place" → ✅ "this place means a lot to me" / "I'm really attached to it"（表达喜爱用 attached to，比 very like 地道）

• beautiful → striking / breathtaking / picturesque

• big → vast / sweeping / expansive

• like → resemble / look as if / remind me of

• important → matter to me / mean a lot

1. landform /ˈlændfɔːm/ n.

2. snow-capped mountains

3. Danxia landforms

The roots of "geography" and reading the earth

The word "geography" comes from Greek geo (earth) and graphein (to write or describe). So geography literally means "writing about the earth". A landform is simply land + form, the shape the earth takes. Liangzhou, anciently called Wuwei, is a natural textbook of geography: snow-capped mountains, canyons, grasslands, and the red Danxia rocks of Gulang and Tianzhu. To read these landforms is to read the earth's own writing, layer by layer.

回扣：09-05 交通说窗外 "the fields gave way to the Gobi Desert"，今天说的 沙漠 landform 正是那片戈壁，give way to 在这里是地貌更替；09-04 文化说凉州 bears a thousand years of history，丹霞这种 landform 也 bears 千万年地质史，与"承载历史"异曲同工。

Geography describes the earth; geology explains how it was formed.

The landform was transformed by wind and water over millions of years.
